Description of group
The Advisory development group manages a number of web platforms and mainframe applications which primarily serve the Consulting Group business unit. These systems allow financial advisors and portfolio managers, both internal and external to Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, to manage money and asset allocations and provide advice to clients. The CG group accounts for a significant portion of the revenue stream for the business and is an important growth area for the wealth management business.
This position will report to the manager for Advisory Application Development.
Job Description
The candidate will be responsible for developing a production support model for the group and implementing this model.
Skills Required:
Technical Skills
o The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in the IT industry, of which a minimum of 5 years were in a variety of production support management roles.
o Experience in the asset management, advisory and/or brokerage industries is highly desirable.
o Exposure to IBM mainframe environments and batch processes is a requisite skill for this position. A background/exposure to web technologies (Java, ASP and/or .Net technologies) is very desirable. Database skills (DB/2 on UDB or mainframe useful) are an essential component of the job.
o Troubleshoot application outages. Develop a production support rotation.
o Understand ways to optimize performance of applications.
o Work with development managers on production releases and GWM wide compliance to processes.

o Ability to educate people at all levels in a respectful and interactive manner.
o A detailed understanding of production support models; decision metrics for determining when to use various support models, critical success factors, standard industry practices, statistics and reporting, client communications.
o Has experience driving change across an IT area and nurturing relationships in the process of doing do.
o Excellent presentations skills: ability to communicate technical production issues in a clear and concise manner; individually or in front of a group. Can sense the concerns of senior client management and develop action plans to address those concerns effectively.
o Able to approach problems as challenges and deal with them constructively and promoting this approach to other team members at the same time.
o Can set an example for team members in the following manner: hard work, a focus on client delivery, preparedness, organization, a positive attitude and respect for others..
