Job Description
- Our client a leading financial services company is currently seeking an Applied Research professional to join their Analytics Research Organization in New York.
- The client provides investment decision support tools to investors globally, including asset managers, banks, hedge funds and pension funds. The company’s products and services include indices, portfolio risk and performance analytics, and governance tools. The company’s flagship product offerings are: portfolio risk and performance analytics covering global equity and fixed income markets; market and credit risk analytics; out-sourced proxy research, voting and vote reporting services; forensic accounting risk research, legal/regulatory risk assessment, and due-diligence; and FEA valuation models and risk management software for the energy and commodities markets.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
- The client is looking for an exceptional candidate to join the Applied Research group. Applied Research is a client centric research group with a broad mandate to write and speak about asset allocation, global investing, and risk management trends that are most relevant for the investment process of our diverse client base.
- The group utilizes company products including data, analytics, and products to offer research insights through publications and speaking engagement and during client / prospect meetings. The group also reports to senior management on major market and investment trends and their potential impact on the firm’s strategic research and product development agenda.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The successful candidate will impact all aspects of the applied research group initiatives, including:
- Representing the research and analytics aspects of our product offerings in client and prospect meetings.
- Be an ambassador for current and upcoming research initiatives through speaking engagements at industry events, research conferences, and client/prospect meetings.
- Writing research bulletins and white papers on current investment themes that leverage the company’s products, analytics and index data and models.
- Analyzing competitor models and analytics for Equity and multi asset class portfolio and risk management solutions.
- Working with clients to provide innovative risk and portfolio management solutions and leverage the results with other organizations through presentations and white papers.
- Working within a global team on investment problems from clients around the world.
Work Experience
- 1-3 years professional experience with PhD (or 5 plus years without PhD) in the Asset Management industry is required, preferably in a research role that includes presenting the research externally.
- Knowledge of portfolio management, risk management or portfolio construction processes is essential.
- Knowledge of Efficient Markets and Portfolio theory is required (CAPM, Multi-Factor Modeling) and familiarity with Barra or RiskMetrics tools and analytics is a plus.
- Statistical skills (e.g., time series and cross-sectional analysis) and facility with statistical and database packages (e.g., SAS, Matlab, SQL) required.
- Excellent presentation skills and experience in writing research reports are vital.
Education
- Must be have a PhD in Finance, Financial Engineering, economics or related field with an additional technical/quantitative degree (i.e. Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Math)
- CFA is a plus

- The Applied Researcher is a VP level position
- Base salary: $120-160K plus bonus total reward the total reward could be $270K
- Need 1-3 years experience in Equity Quantitative Research or Equity Quantitative Risk Management working with a small analytic team
- PHD in Financial Engineering, Applied Mathematics,
- Solid Equity Quant Models
- Will be mentored for a higher level position
- Must have excellent communications, attend sales presentation and update client on new product changes.
Must have Matlab and SAS..database knowledge
Will write white papers and speak at conferences.
Fee 20% base
