Job Description
My client, a top tier investment firm is seeking a strong analyst for its Valuation Review Group (“VRG”), that is part of the larger Financial Risk Control function within the Finance Division. The candidate will be a member of VRG-Investments and report to its Vice President. The team is the responsible for the valuation review of the Firm’s Investments. VRG is a global group responsible for the design, execution and reporting of an independent valuation review of all asset classes and businesses within the Institutional Securities Group. The group coordinates closely with the Global Product Controllers (“GPC”) organization and Firm Sr. Management in determining projects and prioritizing objectives. Investments primarily consist of Equity Related Holdings in privately held enterprises, but do include positions across the entire capital structure. There are two main categories of Investments; Business Facilitation and Principal Investments. Business Facilitation positions are long term hold holdings where the Firm’s main objective is to facilitate or generate additional business. Principal Investments positions are akin to Private Equity where the Firm’s objective is to achieve capital appreciation over a finite period of time. A successful candidate for VRG-Investments will execute on the valuation review for assigned Investments and facilitate the articulation, development and coordinated application of Valuation Policy and Mark/Valuation review standards for Investments, working closely with Accounting Policy, GPC and the Business Units. The position will get wide exposure to each of the firm’s Business Units maintaining an Investment Portfolio, and the various departments within the Finance organization with a focus on Global Product Control. The role provides the opportunity to gain a solid understanding of the firm’s global and cross-industry pool of Investments and develop an expertise in the Valuation Methodologies employed by the Firm. Further, it is an opportunity to interface and learn from leading professionals with a broad range of experience in multiple industries. Responsibilities: • Perform the mark review for assigned Investments, verifying the marks in accordance with established procedures and identify potential discrepancies or risks; • Assist in the reporting and communication of mark review results to various constituents; • Document present valuation methodology and implementation procedures; • Evaluate present procedures for compliance with established firm policy and regulatory requirements; • Assist in developing new and revise existing valuation methodologies and procedures as necessary• BS/BA in Finance, Economics or Accounting, MBA, Ms or CFA would be a plus; • 3-6 years of business valuation/private equity valuation experience; • Excellent technical skills, including a comprehensive understanding of valuation concepts/techniques and solid modeling skills (Excel); • Proficiency in Word and Power Point; • Working knowledge of research tools (Internet, Bloomberg, Capital IQ,) • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral; • Well organized and detailed oriented; • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; • Ability to manage time effectively and meet tight deadlines; • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team or independently; • Ability to develop and maintain consultative relationships with various constituents.
