Dukes County Savings Bank opened its doors after receiving its banking charter from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This new mutual savings bank, which called Edgartown its home, was created to serve the needs of people who live and work on Martha’s Vineyard. On April 21, 1955 the Bank approved its first mortgage loan – setting in motion over 50 years of independent banking at the Dukes County Savings Bank.
Deposits and transactions at the Bank grew steadily and our officers and trustees felt the need to expand the institution and opened the first branch of Dukes County Savings Bank in Vineyard Haven in 1977.
